"Estep-ON-A Roll: Estepona Nominated for 'European City of the Year'!"

"EstepONA Point: Estepona's Quest for 'European City of the Year' Glory!"

Drumroll, please! Estepona is strutting its stuff as it scores a dazzling spot among the top three finalists for the coveted 'European City of the Year 2023' award. The announcement, like a burst of confetti, showered down on Thursday, July 20, leaving the town beaming with pride.

With a wink and a nod, The Academy of Urbanism, an esteemed international organization that celebrates urban excellence within the European Union and the UK, has singled out Estepona for its outstanding urban practices. The town is the proud sole representative of Spain in this thrilling race, ready to show off its charms against the delightful contenders of Amersfoort in the Netherlands and Exeter in the UK.

In September, an elite squad of architects and urban planners will descend upon Estepona, like curious tourists with magnifying glasses, scrutinizing every delightful detail. They'll delve into the town's heart, seeking out the secrets to its allure – the quality of life, sustainability efforts, environmental initiatives, local culture, infrastructure, and so much more.

Estepona has wowed The Academy of Urbanism with its audacious moves, like a sassy dance on the urban stage. The entire old town has been blissfully pedestrianized, connecting the entire coast with its snazzy 'coastal corridor' infrastructure project, and even offering pocket-friendly public parking – making every urban explorer's dreams come true!

It's no wonder the judges are smitten with Estepona's love affair with culture, celebrated at its star attractions like Mirador El Carmen and vibrant events like the Artistic Murals Route and Poetry Trail. Estepona is an artist's canvas, painted with vibrant hues of creativity and passion.

But there's more to the town's allure than meets the eye. The Academy of Urbanism applauds Estepona's "courage" and "audacity" in its unwavering commitment to enhance its residents' quality of life. They can't help but be dazzled by the ambitious 'Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol' project – a dream brought to life!

Mayor José María García Urbano can't contain his excitement over this prestigious nomination. With a twinkle in his eye, he exclaims, "We've really made waves in Estepona, and it's heart warming to see a renowned organization recognize our efforts to care for our environment and our people."

The 'European City of the Year' award is like a treasure trove of recognition, previously captured by illustrious cities like Copenhagen, Lisbon, Berlin, Edinburgh, and Rotterdam. Estepona aims to stand proudly among the crème de la crème of Spanish destinations, alongside past winners Bilbao and San Sebastian, with dreams of holding the coveted title close to its heart.

The town eagerly awaits the judges' grand arrival, setting the stage for a dazzling spectacle that might just see Estepona crowned as the shining star of 'European City of the Year 2023'. Fingers crossed, hearts pounding, the whole town holds its breath in anticipation, ready to dance its way to victory!
