HSBC Commissions poll for best lifestyle in Europe and reveals Spain top of the list.

The survey undertaken by YouGov polled almost 22,000 expats living in 100 different countries during the first quarter of 2015. The expats questioned stated that the quality of life, culture and the relative ease of starting a new life in Spain are the reasons that Spain is considered to be the best European location for international settlers. An impressive seven in ten expats in Spain (72 per cent) confirm that they enjoy immersing themselves in the culture and that integration is welcomed by the local community. Almost half of the respondents confirm that learning Spanish has given them a greater sense of belonging, and over 80 per cent were learning to speak the language at the time of the survey. It’s also worth noting that HSBC’s survey isn’t alone in ranking Spain high. Spanish Property Sales Predicted to Rise by 2016

According to a report by Servihabitat 400,000 homes will be sold in Spain by the end of 2015, 26% more than the same time last year. La Caixa Banks property division predicts the number of house sales in Spain to amount to 460,000 by 2016, representing an increase of 14.5%. The regions that will register the biggest increase in sales will be the Canaries, Madrid and the Basque Country, with sales expected to increase by at least 20%. The Spanish property market is “registering a gradual process of normalisation, with an increase in the volume of sales and a progressive appreciation of house prices,” according to the report. They also forecast that holiday home apartments with 1-2 bedrooms measuring 50m2 – 65m2 will be on people’s wish list with buyers opting to purchase a property for sale on the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Canaries or the Balearics, the Costa Brava is predicted to see a slight increase in buying activity.

Plans announced for world class water park in Marbella

The proposed scheme has the support from Ángeles Muñoz , and has been the brain child of the owners of the Hotel Don Miguel. The new water park which will be located beside the Hotel Don Miguel hotel. Marbella Leisureland Investments, a company linked to the Libyan group that bought the Don Miguel in 2012 with the idea of re-opening it as a luxury five-star resort, plans to begin building works in 2016 and open the leisure facility in the summer of 2017. The water park, on a site which is 62,000 square metres in size, is to have eight zones, 28 attractions and four kilometres of paths. A thousand job positions are to be created - directly and indirectly - during its construction. Tens of millions of euros are expected to be invested in the scheme. Muñoz said, “This is a unique project for Marbella and has been conceived with the objective of becoming iconic in global terms.”

Mijas getting ready for the summer season

La Cala Beach Mijas puts final touches to summer beach walkway. New walkway in Riviera del Sol nearing its completion as workers add the final touches to it. Approximately 250 metres of walkway connects the area’s beaches and the council has declared that they will continue to Calahonda as soon as permission comes through from the Junta de Andalucia regional government. Wooden bases are being placed under 40 showers on Mijas coast’s beaches and walkways down to the shore, created to meet mobility regulations. Beach councillor Carmen Marquez explained: “The work is being done on beaches including Playa Marina, Playa de El Charcon and Playa de El Faro. We aim to make all our beaches easily accessible for locals and visitors this summer.”

Hotel occupancy up by 10% in Andalucia

10% more overnight stays were recorded in Andalucia hotels in the first quarter of 2015 than in the same period the year before. Hotels and guest-houses across the region recorded almost 7.1 million overnight stays which is just under 10% higher than the start of 2014. Even more good news – hotels are forecasting 80% occupancy for the upcoming May bank holiday, 5% up on last year, according to Luciano Alonso, Andalucia Minister of Tourism.
